I see that you are also resourceful and researched this before starting. I just wanted to let you know there is about everything you would like or need to know in YouTube Videos. Just get to the section of 'carpentry' and how-to.... Just type in whatever it is that you want to know and all these 'Pro's' are there to help with their videos. I have spent HOURS just watching "joinery". It's a term used to describe the diff. ways to join wood together, using a variety of styles. Very helpful to see which is the strong way.... and not so strong. See ya around.
