Create art that fits your own personal style using a few simple steps. This project requires just a few products... Dixie Belle Paint Company's Crackle, Paint, Slick Stick, Clear Coat, & Glaze. With the right products and techniques, it's easy to add custom art to your home!
Start with a simple frame with glass insert. Whether the frame is wood, plastic, metal, etc., it will work. Since this frame is black, that's what color the cracks showing through the paint will be. Paint the frame if you want them to be a different color.
Add one coat of Crackle to the frame. Crackle can be tricky. The key is to not overwork it. DO NOT brush back and forth! Get a generous amount of Crackle on the brush, start at a center section of the frame and drag the crackle as far as it will go. Go back to the center point and if it is heavy, drag it in the other direction. As the Crackle dries it will appear uneven.
Allow the Crackle to dry completely, then paint over it with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint. I chose the color Apricot.
Add two coats of Slick Stick to the glass that came in the frame, waiting an hour between each coat. This will allow great adhesion of the paint to the glass.
Paint over the Slick Stick with two coats of the paint color, Fluff. Allow to dry completely.
Print an image and cut closely around it. It's okay to leave some of the white paper. The image must be printed on a laser printer. The ink will bleed if using an ink jet printer. If you don't have a laser jet printer, print the image and make a copy at an office supply store.
Coat the glass and the printed side of the image with Dixie Belle's Clear Coat. Place the image printed side down and allow to dry overnight.
Spray the paper with water and allow it to saturate into the paper. You will see the image start to appear when saturated. You can also lay a wet paper towel over the image to saturate the paper.
Use your finger to rub over the image to remove the paper. When dry, if the image is cloudy, repeat this process.
Add Clear Coat over the image. Use glaze if you want to antique the art.
If using glaze, use a damp rag to add it to both the picture and the frame.
While you're at it, you'll want to make more! A grouping of custom art creates a great impact.
