DIY Wood Crate Dog Bed

My fur baby has a couple dog pillow beds around the house. But I decided I wanted to make her, her very own fancy dog bed. And I did just that without breaking the bank and it turned out absolutely beautiful!

I started off by removing the top two slates of the crate on one side. That was simply done with a hammer and flathead screwdriver.

Then I went through and sanded the rough parts with 400-grade sandpaper. Not much. Just enough to smooth things out and make sure we don't get splinters. I also removed the sticker on the crate using Goof Off and then sanded that part smooth as well.

I stained the crate with only one coat and allowed it to dry. I used Valspar in the color Early American. That has been my favorite to work with lately.

After letting it dry, I then topped it with a coat of poly to protect it!

I added a cute little pillow and my little lady seems to love it. The only downside is when she moves in the middle of the night I hear her now cause her collar brushes up against the wood. But we still love it!
