Walk through a gift shop, spot something cute, pick it up and try not to drop it when you see the price! At least, that's how it goes for me. I'm more the Dollar Tree girl. I saw this at Anthropologie and needed one for my guest bedroom.
But the PRICE! It was like $198..so I got a piece of wood from Lowes for $7.00
I painted it blue, because I like blue.. mixed in a little green.
Using acrylic paint I did some primitive flowers.
Just whatever I liked. My bedroom has violet in it.
I attached some handles we had here. I think they were about $3.00. I sprayed it with clear sealer.
Next I saw this artichoke bowl. Beautiful. Could I make something like it?
I decided to try salt dough. I
I cut out a bunch of little leaves and baked them.
Bake salt dough on 180 until hard and dry.
I spray painted them white. Hint: painting salt dough makes it softer and flexible until it dries. Males it easier to work with.
I used an empty plastic container and hot glued the leaves onto it.
I filled up the whole container. Then I covered the whole thing in white paint. You can see the final at the bottom of the project. Mine is rustic, but I like it.
I also liked these vases that cost $48.
I had a free liquor bottle or two...
I used modge podge to coat them first. Then I sponge painted them using acrylic glaze.
Here is the whole group. I wish I could post more photos!
The tray and bowl turned out pretty nice, but I really LOVE the bottles.

Did you buy the wood already cut with the curves?

Love the bottles, too. Wish I hadn't seen the inspiration piece first, because I do like the finished tray. But since I did see the original, I keep thinking "It needs a white flower" --lol my problem, not yours Beautiful!
