Have you ever had an item that no matter what you tried, you just can't figure out how to clean it? It all started a few months ago when I was trying to clean a vase out. I had tried just about every brush and solution I had to clean it but I just couldn't reach down the narrow neck into the larger bottom to get all the scum out of it! Without being able to scrub it, the residue just sat there glued to the sides. Forever.
After soaking it for hours and trying to scrub inside with a toothbrush, my daughter who used to work in a floral shop told me to use denture tablets. Huh? I tried it, it worked and I decided to figure out exactly what else I could use it on. Lo and behold, I've discovered a bunch of uses for these lowly denture tablets!
Everything from vases and cups, to rings, coffee filter baskets, hairbrushes and even the tank on my mini rug scrubber could be cleaned with denture tablets!

I used denture tablets to clean the tea basket of my iced tea maker. It was stained from use but no matter how I tried I could not get a brush into the tiny slots to clean it. I just poured 1 cup of warm water in and added 1 denture tablet then rinsed when clean. No scrubbing required.
To clean diamond jewelry (not silver or pearls though): Drop a denture tablet into a cup of warm water and add jewelry. Let sit until the fizzing stops then rinse clean. How easy is that?

I came up with 8 different hard to clean surfaces that became sparkling clean after an encounter with an Efferdent tablet and some hot water! For instructions on how to clean all 8 items, check out my post Cleaning With Denture Tablets.

Good tips! May work on some things. Tried the denture tablets in the toilet. Did not work. Tried again used even four tablets. Still the results were poor. I like baking powder and vinegar in the toilet (cheaper). Tea or coffee basket goes in the dishwasher (no cost). I use white toothpaste (not gel) and damp toothbrush for jewelry, all jewelry and everyone has it.. Use toothpaste to clean a lot of things I sell on Ebay. Crushed ice and salt to clean vases, etc. Swish around and rinse.

When using the denture tablets in the toilet you need to dump a pitcher of hot water in first. They work much better in hot water than cold. That's awesome that you have a dishwasher! Unfortunately I have to do dishes by hand so some of the harder to reach crevices don't get as clean. I've never heard of using baking powder to clean...did you mean baking soda?
