Our fire pit was just that...the pits.
I mean, this was it. We just pulled chairs around it. We knew we had to do something.
We started the improvements by scraping away the grass in a big rectangle around the pit. I dont have pictures because my husband did it while I was at the store. He used a square point shovel. Then he laid down weed barrier and lined the outside with landscape timbers. He drilled two holes in each timber and pounded a long spike nail into the ground to secure them. Then rocks were poured and spread. You can buy rocks by the bag or by the truck load.
At this point we still had ugly plastic furniture. I had to find ways to fill up the area without busting the budget. I found 2 little metal tables for $5.00 each.
I really wanted some adirondacks chairs but they are expensive. We found one online that was cheaper because we had to assemble it. Then, we found two cool wood chairs at a thrift store for $3.00 each!!!
I saw some lanterns I wanted but they were way too much. Then I found 4 huge jars at Dollar General for $5.00 each. I put solar lights in each and hung them from some little posts I found at Big Lots.
We used natural boulders and more rocks to create a path to the area. Then I wanted flower beds. We mulched both sides of the path and planted assorted plants and grasses.
Here is the path, beds, and our house in the background.
We also moved a glider we had into the pit. I'm proud of the pillows. I bought a couple and sewed the rest. Now the whole area is pretty and relaxing and we spend lots of time there.

My grandson put in a patio for me in the back yard, off my porch, however we put the fire pit on the outside edge. I absolutely LOVE your pit in the center of it all. Might just be time fir a change. Thanks for sharing!
