Oversized Bead Garland Wall Decor

Wooden bead garlands are all the rage right now and they're really easy to make too. We made quite a few before we decided to take it up a notch and create this oversized one to add to our wall decor.
Doesn't it look so lovely. You can hang seasonal decor from it like we did or leave it as is , either way it's sure to make an impact. I don't know about you but there's is just something about  big wall art  that always makes me look twice. But oversized wall art can be terribly expensive, while this faux wood garland didn’t even cost $10 to make with a few bits and pieces you can find at any craft store. All you need to make your own is a collection polystyrene or Styrofoam balls and ribbons or fabric scraps for the tassels.

You'll also need some twine to thread the balls and acrylic paint in your choice of color. Before painting the balls put a toothpick in the ball and then use it to "suspend" the toothpicks in some scrap polystyrene.
It makes it so much easier to paint the balls icon Once they've all been painted and the paint has dried, use a a skewer to make a large hole all the way through the ball, ermh I mean bead.
Thread the bead balls together using the twine. Make sure to leave at least 6" on either side after threading to hang the tassels. For our garland we started by threading two small beads, followed by three medium, four large, four medium, four large, three medium and finally two small beads. To make the tassels cut strips of ribbon or fabric and bind them tightly together at the top with lace and twine.
Tie them onto the ends and your oversized bead garland is done icon
I would love to know what you think and whether it's something you would add to your wall decor. Until next time, hope you have a beautiful week.

I think you did a great job, I do like the completed look very much. Sometimes difficult to judge scale, is this on a shelf or the floor? Either way, looks great!

  • I looked at the styrofoam balls at my local walmart, the 5" one was $7!! Can you believe that?? Where did you Find yours? I'd be willing to bet you didn't drop that kinda cash on this project...

Absolutely loved this. I am blown away that more people haven't commented on how well you painted these. In the photo they legitimately look like large WOODEN beads. Fantastic job!
