If you have looked around Pinterest or any design/home magazines lately, you have probably noticed that gallery walls are a popular and fun way to decorate your space. But where do you start? How do you put it all together? Well today I'm going to share with you, how I created a gallery wall in my dining room.
So where do you start?!?!  When we first moved into this house a little over a year ago- I knew I wanted to create a gallery wall for this particular wall in the dining room.  You can see this wall from most of the downstairs and as soon as you walk in the front door, so I wanted something that was fun with a few pops of color - that could fill a big space.
I started out with the large floral painting- which was one of my first big girl purchases for our first home, when we were just married.  I love it! So it was going up- but although it is a large piece, it wasn't big enough to stand alone on that wall.  So over the next few months I bought pieces I wanted to incorporate into the gallery wall, and saved all the receipts- just in case!
How I Hang A Gallery Wall:

- Start with your middle piece (in this case mine was a side piece) and build around it.

- Lay out all your pieces on the ground and arrange it until you like the finished look/shape of it.  Don't feel like you have to use everything you have.  If something doesn't look right or fit- don't force it.  You might also find that you are missing something, or need more of something with a coordinating/similar color, or just need a smaller/larger shaped something than what you have.  That's okay!  It's a little bit of a process, and that's why you save your receipts.  I ended up creating a few of the pieces in my gallery wall, because I wanted a specific size and look for it.

- Once you have it laid out on the floor, measure the distance from your starting piece's middle- to the bottom of your gallery wall's design.  Then take that measurement to your wall, to find where you want the bottom of your gallery wall design to sit.  From there, mark up to where your middle point should be, based on your original design measurement.

- Hang your first piece, and then work your way out and around from there with your remaining objects.
I really liked the look of the large 3 wooden piece arrow art I've seen incorporated in other gallery walls- so I created this one for mine.  I also painted the large Domino art piece.  It is supposed to represent our little family (2 parents + 3 kids) in a fun and quirky way...without being another family photo :)
I completely fell in love with this adorable guy when I saw him, and since he was on sale AND went perfectly with my color scheme- he had to come home with me.
Gallery walls can add a little fun and a lot of interest to a room.  I love the way my gallery wall turned out, and it makes me smile every time I see it...which really is the point of decorating your space.  So if you have been thinking about creating your own gallery wall- be brave, get creative and have some fun with it!
