We fell in love with the Restoration Hardware Iron & Rope Mirror, but not its $659 price tag. Armed with an Ikea mirror & some hardware store supplies we made our own for $30.
Our completed mirror. Can you tell that the "iron" band really isn't iron at all? Here's how we did it.
We traced our mirror onto a piece of plywood, and cut it with a jig saw.
We wrapped a 2" wide strip of 1/4" MDF around the outside of the plywood, nailing it in place.
The frame was painted with Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint, and the mirror was glued inside the frame. A rope & hanging hardware were attached.
The finished mirror in action!

That looks so good that I am going have to copy it. I even have everything to make it. Thanks so much. Merry Christmas.

Have a question about this project?
Hi, where did you get the 2" wide strip of 1/4" MDF that's flexible? I want to make a boarder around a sign that's arch at the top and I can't seem to find anything that would bend around the arch. I've look in Home Depot and Lowe's, and online no luck what's so ever. I love the mirror thinking of doing one myself, if I find the boarder.
Thanks,
Mercedes
