I had a big blank wall in my living room that needed some sprucing up - so I decided to try something new!

Faux farmhouse crackle with this candlestick trick!

Step 1:

Begin by grabbing a piece of reclaimed wood to use as your board. Next, paint your first layer of paint - I used Behr paint but you could use chalk paint or any other kind of house paint as well.

Step 2:

After you've applied your first coat - let it dry!

Step 3:

Next, grab a candle stick and begin rubbing the wax onto the board.

Step 4:

After that - add your second color of paint. You will want to use two different colors to achieve the crackle effect & the second coat dry let dry.

Step 5:

After your paint has dried, apply some stencil film. I cut the film in strips - covering the whole board, pressing it down onto the paint & wax using a gift card.

Step 6:

Next, pealed it away. Repeat this step if necessary.

Step 7:

Following that, I added a stencil I created using my Silhouette Cameo machine and painted it. You could use a pre-made stencil as well.

Step 8:

Next, I grabbed an antique frame that was lying around my garage & I wood glued it to the board.

You could apply this technique to so many different things!

I hope this inspires you to try out a new painting technique today! icon

Looks great. Stencil film is necessary though? I've never worked with it. Any tricks?
