Tall, Dark.. and Not so Handsome.. Until Now!

Wildflowers & Pistols
by Wildflowers & Pistols
This dresser is pretty tall and SUPER heavy! I bought this because, even though it was dark and clunky, I loved the flower carvings and it's 'pillars'. I knew I wanted to lighten this piece up and help bring out those flowers and all it's details!
As I said.. It was tall, it was dark.. but it wasn't handsome.. Not only is this piece crazy heavy (physically speaking) but it's also heavy on the eyes.
The first step to it's transformation was to add floral textured wallpaper to the drawers. I measure and cut out each piece of wallpaper to fit inside each part of the bottom drawers. I used an adhesive spray to attach the wallpaper.
I did the same thing on the sides of the dresser as well.
Then it was time to paint! I painted over the wallpaper allowing the texture and outline of the floral design to still be seen. I painted this using The Hayloft's Milk Paint in Tea Towel (the white) and a custom mix of Tea Towel, Federal Blue, and Spring Sprout for the blue. Then, for the flowers I used The Hayloft's Milk Paint as well using Meadowlark, Harvest Orange, Grandma's Quilt and I created the pink by mixing Tea Towel with Barn Red. I decided to keep the original hardware. I thought they worked well with its new look.
The floral design is subtle but adds so much more depth and beauty!
The flowers are probably still my favorite part! After everything was painted I added a glaze.
All of these details now stand out and I think they are simply beautiful!
I love all that chippy you can get with milk paint!!
As I said.. This dresser is crazy HEAVY! I'm no sissy of a girl either.. I can usually lift just about anything.. but, yeah.. not this one! I had to leave it on the rollers for the pictures because there was no way I could get it lifted back onto the rollers by myself.
It's no longer dark and dreary. I love how this one turned out!
