DIY Small Space Water Feature

Turn an ordinary flower pot into a gorgeous water feature for you small space. Add this to your deck, patio or balcony for a cool water feature for less than $20.
It takes less than 30 minutes to make your own water feature that will last throughout the summer. No electricity, no pump, just water and plants.
Start with a shallow pot WITHOUT drainage holes. This pot is about 18" in diameter and about 10" deep. Fill it halfway with water.
Then pop in your favourite water plants.....Here is water hyacinth which will fill your pot with it's fleshy leaves and interesting bulbous water storage pods.
The water hyacinth will bloom in late summer, adding some colour to your water feature.
Another favourite is water lettuce. I love the deeply ridged leaves and how it forms little heads of "lettuce" in the garden.
For added drama and height, use dwarf papyrus. With a height of approximately 2', it's perfect for a small space feature.

Now fill the pot with water to the rim. Place it in your favourite spot and sit back and enjoy!

Both water hyacinth and water lettuce are listed as invasive aquatic species and prohibited for residential and commercial pond use in Texas and other states.

You can use a large garden flower container with a drain hole if you caulk the hole closed. We use a large foam based pot that looks like a beautiful ceramic glaze, but weighs a lot less and was a fraction of the price (Lowes) We do use a small pump fountain so the birds can shower and it keeps the water moving so skeeters will be less. We splash the fountain water on a platform that holds chunks of gorgeous petrified wood. That gives birds, butterflies and the occasional animal or frog a place to sit.

The **Horse tail** plant is also gorgeous in these or a damp spot in your garden, buy them via mail.
