Big Girl Bedroom Makeover

We started working on our daughter's room immediately after we closed on our house 3 years ago. It began with rust colored shag carpet that was original to the house. We weren’t about to let our then one-year-old baby girl step her cute little baby toes on that gross carpet, so on our way back from closing, we quickly ripped out the carpet before heading back to pack up our old home. Ever since then we've been working little by little to add some girly personality to the room … without going overboard!
Touches of pink add personality without being to over-the-top girly.
When we bought the house, the carpet in this room was just gross. We closed on the house and immediately ripped the carpet out. The wood floors weren't perfect, but they were SO much better than that carpet! Taking it out made a huge difference!
This handmade magnetic memo board (made from a $1 garage sale mirror) and hand built bookshelves help keep things organized in our little girl's bedroom.
I tried to balance colors with touches of white as to not overwhelm the room. Almost everything in the room including the bed, nightstand, and drop-cloth-wrapped frame were free or very low cost items that were updated for just a few dollars a piece.
A vinyl decal accent wall gives personality to the room, but can be easily removed when my little girl's tastes change.
