The front door is the perfect place to spread some festive fall fun, and for some reason when I think of fall one of the things that comes to my mind is owls. No idea why, but hey… why not? lol.
To make my owl I pulled some odds and ends out of my repurposing stashes of inexpensive thrifted goodies, many of which are vintage. I had everything on hand that I needed to use, which kept my cost at a mininum.

They include a rectangular aluminum baking pin, 2 medium-sized jello molds, 2 silver plate forks, 1 silver plate teaspoon, 1 tea strainer, 2 brass hardware pieces, 2 vintage faux pearl stud earrings, an oval wooden plaque, and an orange scarf.
The first thing I did was mark on the aluminum baking pan where I wanted my jello mold eyes to go. I put my molds in place and marked through the holes in the molds.
Then I hammered in the two holes that I marked with a large nail.
I wrapped the orange scarf around the baking pan and held it in place at the back with clips.

I didn't want to permanently attach the scarf because it's one of my faves to use for fall projects, and I might want to take this project apart and use the scarf for something else next fall.
I used brass fasteners to attach the jello molds to the baking pan. They wen through the jello molds and the baking pan to the back, where I spread them apart.
To make it look like my owl has eyebrows I did the same thing for the two brass hardware pieces just above the eyes.
And I hammered two holes on either side of the teaspoon nose.
Copper wire holds the nose in place.
To make the feet and claws I used needle nose pliers to bend the tines of the silver plate forks. I used silver plate because it's easier to bend than stainless steel.
I put the forks in place on the baking pan, under the scarf, using E6000 glue and gold old fashioned duct tape.
I have a stash of vintage tools and I love using them in projects so to look like my owl is holding a branch I slid in a vintage rasp.
Two wooden tote bag handles make for a great pair of wings. I used command strips and applied them directly to my front door.
Because the back of my baking pan is hollow I put a nut and bolt through the top, which then slid into an old lock par that I screwed onto the door on the door.

You can also see that I glued the strainer part of the tea strainer onto the spoon to finish his nose, and I glued the faux pearl earrings inside the jello molds to make his eyes look pretty.
And here he is hanging on my front door with his chalkboard sign asking Who Are You?

In owl language of course. lol.

This project is pretty easy because no power tools are required. It just took a little time to put it all together.
