I whipped up these quick and easy luminaries that you can use year after year for your 4th of July celebrations. Just punch holes in tin cans, add a little spray paint, and voila! Use a printed letter as your guide when punching the holes.
It starts with simple tin cans, a mallet and an awl.
The key to punching holes in tin is to have something hard behind it...like ice.
You could also punch holes in the sides and make handles to hang them or punch holes in the bottom back to feed Christmas lights through rather than using tea lights.
Vary the size of each hole by punching harder or softer. Follow the edges of the printed letter so you can capture the font you used. Pick a font with a strong serif (those little ledges on the tips of the letters).
