DIY Shiplap Wall
We had a blank wall that needed some sprucing up. Take a look at my take on the classic ship-lap wall, it sure did the trick. I cut plywood to make this shiplap-style wall for CHEAP!! And to add some thickness, I attached 1” chunks to the back. Easy peezy 🙌🏼 Here's how I did it!
This was our boring wall before I got to work. It just happens to be 16’ tall🙈
Step one: I cut 8” strips of this plywood. (DIY tip) This is a great way to save some $$!
Step two: Once all of the strips were cut, I added these little 1x4s to the ends of the plywood for some added depth.
Here's another cool trick for you! Pieces of this yardstick made for the perfect spacers. In the past I’ve also used nickles 🙌🏼 works great!
Step three: Fill the nail holes with some wood filler and then sand lightly.
Then brush on a fresh coat of paint (we chose white) and 😍🙌🏼. That's it! Hope you like it, and maybe give it a try yourself!

I did this to an entire wall in my dining room. I did stagger my pieces in different lengths. My local homedepot actually cut the plywood into desired lengths for me saving even another step. We used something called pickling stain or white wash and it turned out amazing. We have gotten sooo many compliments. It was really easy to do as well. And cheap. One and a half sheets of plywood did an entire wall.We only did one wall using it as a focal point in the room. But I think it would look amazing on all of them. It really gave a rustic farmhouse look. Yours also looks amazing 😉

FANTASTIC IDEA!! I would never think of using chunks of wood on each end of the plywood strips like that -- what a great tip! And it looks really good, NOT like a shortcut! 😍😍😍 CONGRATS!

Beautiful! I’ve been trying to design a fireplace insert/ tv entertainment center for a bare wall and this is something that would definitely work for me. I wonder where you placed the cable boxes etc.? Could you post a final pic after you added the tv? Thanks!
