Learn how to make a DIY gnome in one afternoon. These cute Scandinavian gnomes are made with a pair of socks, nylon stockings, wool roving and plaid fabric. It’s a super easy craft for the holiday season and you can change the gnome’s clothing and accessories to make him fit any season or holiday. Adults and kids of all ages will love to make a DIY gnome this winter. Its the perfect craft project for a cold winter day spent indoors.

Cut the feet off the nylons about 12 inches from the toe.

Fill them with 2 cups of sand. Tie the top of the nylon so the sand doesn't spill out.

Insert the sand filled nylon into the sock.

Fill up the inside of the sock on top of the nylon with polyester stuffing. Keep stuffing the sock until it is about 6 inches tall.

Tie the top of the sock in a knot and pull the free end of the sock over the knot.

Make the nose by taking a golf ball sized piece of poly stuffing and wrapping a piece of leftover nylon over it. Tie the end of the nylon so the stuffing doesn't come out.

Pull three pieces of wool roving 4-6 inches long to make the beard and mustache. Use hot glue to secure it under the top of the rolled over sock

Glue the nose under the sock like you did with the wool roving.

Cut a large triangle to make the hat.

Place the two good sides together and hot glue the fabric together leaving a hole at the very tip of the hat.

Flip hat inside out.

Take the wire and wrap it around the Christmas ornament.

Feed the wire through the hat and glue the fabric at the tip of the hat to the ornament so it stays in place.

Add some extra poly filling inside the hat to give it shape and bend the hat so it flops over. The wire will make it stay in place.

Wrap the free end of the wire around the top knot of the sock.

Glue the edge of the hat in place over the nose and around the gnome's eyes.

Place your gnome on display!
