I imagined a large bottle-brush tree with a spiral of faux roses for a centerpiece this year.

I thought many other rose colors would look wonderful too, but the color red won out after much planning and pouring over poly-flower images online.

To make a decoration like this, you'll need:

• A 16" bottle brush tree (mine was metallic with glitter and berries)

• Masking tape

• Enough faux roses to make a spiral around the tree. I used 74 (1-inch) roses

• Tools – scissors, wire cutter, and hot glue

Here's what my roses looked like to begin with. I bought these at an on-line auction. Each rose was estimated to be 1-1/4" across.

Snipping the stems to about 1-inch or less. I planned to push them back into the brush of the tree.

Life is a bowl of roses! 74 to be exact.

I trimmed some of the outer petals of each rose to make them look like buds starting to open. It's important not to overpower your bottle-brush tree.

This part was kind of fussy … making a spiral path around the tree with masking tape. Apply it lightly so that you don't pull off to much of the surface of the tree. Adjust again and again until the spiral looks great from every direction.

I double checked the spiral with a tape measure to make sure I would have enough roses to make the design. Yep! 74 inches and 74 roses. I was lucky! But I had a few extra roses on hand from another project just in case I ran short. Roll the tape back a few inches at a time …

… add a few dabs of hot glue and place the roses where the tape had been, inch by inch.

And … it's a wrap! Ready for future centerpiece duty! The mantel at the old house we are restoring was very special this year. Take a look at how we decorated around this rose spiral tree here.

Where did you find the bottle brush tree? Saw the real ones in Austrailia. Very pretty idea.
