This Fast DIY is just in time for holiday decorating outside. My standard means of decorating with outdoor lights ended up not being usable this year. I thought, "what do I have in the garage that would work?" Ahhh, wood stakes, a handful of wood craft stars, paint, a Surebonder Light Tacker and hot glue gun would do the job!

If you've not put out your outdoor lights, try out this last minute outdoor decorating idea.

We are starting with a package of (12) 24" tall wood stakes. These also come in shorter and taller heights. Pick up the number you'll need for your light display. (I need two packages to travel down the entire length of my sidewalk.)

I also used spray paint in camouflage green and metallic gold, a Surebonder light tacker and staples, a handful of wood stars and a Surebonder battery powered glue gun.

Check out another quick holiday decor project- a 'mini' ladder Christmas tree!

First thing I did was spray paint the stakes with the camouflage paint. I didn't prep the stakes in any way other than to wipe the store dust off them. If you wanted to be fancy, you could sand them. I also spray painted the wood stars with the gold paint. (Note: I did spray them first with a primer as I find metallic paint covers better when the surface is primed first.)

Next, I took the stakes outside and placed them about two feet apart along the edge of the sidewalk. I loaded up the light tacker with the two-part staple and insulator and tacked the lights into place. This light strand has four wires. I separated out one and tacked that into place.

That curve in the insulator fits easily over the wire without crushing it. If you don't have a light tacker, you could use cup hooks.

The stakes are pounded into the ground with a rubber mallet. They are pounded into the ground just enough to stand up, but not so deep as to make removing them difficult.

I hot glued a wood star to the top of the stake.

Here's the stake with the star added. I will probably go back and add a little artificial garland to cover the staple and to add a little more interest when these are viewed in the daytime.

Here it is at night all lit up. Those are App Lights from The Home Depot. They are programable via an app. They can actually be used year round as there are color settings for all the holidays. Note: My neighbors are decorating overachievers! Ha, but I do love their efforts!

Hello ladies, I love watching your inspirational videos. I need help in building my tools to create. Can you make a video about what tools are needed i.e. power tools that are light weight & powerful? I get so intimidated when I go to my local home Lowes or Home Depot stores that I just walk out in frustration. Can you make a video that will, at least, guide me in building my "tool arsenal" ? thanks again for such fun & creative info.
