Making your own household cleaner is not complicated. It's not only much healthier for your family, it costs just pennies. We use it for tons of things! Find out more.

Cleaning can be far safer if you skip all the harmful chemicals in store bought cleaners. Organic or safer cleaners can be super expensive and some of them actually use false claims for how safe their products are. Who wants to mess with all that when you can use what you have around the house to make safe and effective cleaners for pennies.

Baking soda and vinegar have so many uses it's crazy. You can make most any cleaner out of just these two ingredients!

All you need to make a wonderful multi purpose cleaner is a gallon of white vinegar. It costs less than $2. You'll also need a quart sized spray bottle and some essential oils. I love to use lavender for it's anti-bacterial properties, or lemon for it's cleaning properties. You can get them both in this starter kit.

Fill your spray bottle with vinegar. Then add 30 drops of the essential oil you chose into the bottle. Shake and it's ready to spray. Remember to shake it up each time you use it to distribute the oils again. There are a ton of other great cleaners in this blog post that you can make yourself. Check it out at the bottom of the post.

We use this cleaner for dusting, washing windows (leaves NO streaks), mirrors, the bathroom counter top, the kitchen countertop, washing down door knobs and light switches to remove grime and germs, to clean the kitchen sink, clean the stove top, to clean our carpets if they get a spill, to clean the kid's rest mats if they have an accident, to clean all the daycare toys, and so much more. Vinegar is a great disinfectant and it also has cleaning power.

I am so amazed that something so inexpensive and simple can do so much. You don't need all the waste of conventional store bought cleaners. They are expensive and contain a ton of harmful chemicals. That could be hurting your health.

You can use the same mixture straight from the bottle in place of fabric softener. You'll be amazed at how much cleaner your clothes feel and NO static! You can also use it to clean the toilet, just pour it in, let it set and scrub. For tough stains, sprinkle in some baking soda and scrub again.

There are a ton more great, cheap, effective cleaning mixtures in the blog post. Check it out!

I have asthma and my husband has asthma AND no sense of smell so he can’t avoid inhaling chemicals because he can’t smell them. Most of the cleaners on the market irritate our lungs and set off asthma attacks so I’m always loooking for alternatives that we can use. The scented dryer sheets are another problem. This is a great alternative and very safe.

Thanks! My husband has asthma too! That's why we switched from dryer sheets to vinegar in the rinse cycle.
