Add Excitement and Design to a Boring Deck With a Stenciled Rug

Victoria Larsen Stencils
by Victoria Larsen Stencils
I wanted to give my deck a bit of design while providing a more "comfy" feeling. So I bought a plain rug and using just one stencil, and created a spectacular rug for my new outdoor living space.
I started with a simple, plain rug. Big time "BLAH"!
I used our Amour Medallion Painting stencil to stencil rust colored medallions randomly over the surface. I used acrylic paints and a stencil brush for this fun little makeover.
To create a sharp contrast, I then off-set the stencil (covering a small portion of the previous stenciled medallion) and used black paint to create a "layered" effect. Using a "swirling" motion rather than pouncing the brush makes it go much quicker and easier. It also allows more paint to be deposited down in to the fibers of the rug.
They looked GREAT layered!
It was fun deciding where the next medallion would be placed.
Placing the medallions randomly over the surface created a lot of interest and gave my deck a more "homey" feel.

How does the rug hold up in the rain. Do you put something on the rug to protect from the weather?
