My Garden Mid Summer

A small corner of my garden near the lower terrace, a South West location.
It's hard to believe that July is almost over; but I know when the fireflies appear at dusk it is the first sign that summer is marching on. With our rather short growing season, Zone 6, I savour every minute in my garden.
With all the rain we have had recently, everything is lush and green.
The roses have finished their first bloom.
White and pink "Cinderella Fairy," as pretty as their name!
But the hydrangeas are putting on a show at the back path.
and blue lace caps on the upper terrace.
Japanese anemones have sent under ground runners to frame the stone steps
My garden has a mind of it's own! I do very little pruning and I let the plants have their way. We have the space. Here you can see English ivy growing in crevices in the stone steps.
I love moss and ferns. They are a mainstay of the garden.
Maiden hair fern in moss planters on the front porch.
Typical plantings for my shade, woodland garden.
Here, a dry stream bed is nicely edged with ivy and Japanese anemone.
Thank goodness I had the foresight to plant an abundance of ground cover like ajuga, pachysandra and ivy when the garden was begun. It keeps maintenance at a low level, and offers a veritable sea of green most seasons beyond summer. Enjoy your summer!
