These DIY soy wax dipped roses are a cute DIY project for Valentine's Day or any day. They naturally scent your room for several weeks and can even be refreshed easily to get a few more weeks of scent. They are made with fake flowers, soy wax, and a natural fragrance oil.

You'll need:

  • soy wax
  • fake flowers
  • essential oil or fragrance oil
  • double boiler
  • digital scale

Use a digital scale to weigh your wax. I used 3 ounces to make 6 flowers, but I had a lot left over. I recommend melting 4 ounces to make 12 flowers.

Heat your wax in a double boiler. I made one by setting a canning ring in a pan of water and setting a Pyrex measuring cup on top of the ring.

Never heat wax over direct heat. It can cause hot spots, which can bubble up and hurt you or catch fire.

The water should cover over half of the wax. Heat until the wax is melted.

Once the wax is melted, carefully remove from heat and set on a hot pad. Use a laser thermometer to check the temperature. Once it's at 175 degrees, add 0.25 ounces by weight essential oil or fragrance oil. Stir well.

Dip each flower individually. If you need to push it down into the wax, use a spoon.

Lift up the flower and let it drip dry. I tap it on the edge of the glass to get excess wax off.

Hold them until they are set up. This only takes a few minutes. If you lay it down before it's set up, it can get smooshed.

If there are clumps, use a hair dryer to melt the wax. I use my fingers to smooth out the wax. The wax is warm but not hot.

Put them in a vase or mason jar, and you have a natural air freshener. This will scent the room lightly for several weeks.
