As a new pet owner, Steph has accumulated a lot of dog gear that needs to be kept organized. She came up with an idea of twin wall mounted storage spaces for both she and Mac!

We call this our "we are family" project as we are using products from three different family owned and operated companies.

Before reading further, take a bit of time to to watch the video. It will probably answer any questions you may have.

First step is to gather your supplies. We are using wood boards from The Home Depot, Hangman French Cleat, a metal pegboard rail from Wall Control, wide-mouth caning jars, stencils from Stencil Revolution, and not shown, but necessary, a hot glue gun from Surebonder and Wood Stik which is their hot wood glue stick.

We are making two storage units so we cut double of everything we needed. You can find the exact measurements in our website blog post.

Once everything was cut, the boards were sanded smooth and a coat of pre-stain conditioner was applied and allowed to dry 5 to 15 minutes as directed on the can. This pre-stain helps the stain go on smoothly without blotchiness.

Stain was next. I applied the stain with a t-shirt rag and then wiped off the excess with clean rag to expose some of the wood grain. There is a link to this exact stain in our complete list of supplies in our blog post.

Time to stencil! Tip: practice first on paper or cardboard to work out the spacing. I'm using a stencil brush and using a DecoArt chalky paint. Allow the paint to dry before moving onto the next step.

This next step is best done with a buddy as hot glue dries fast. I applied the hot wood glue and Steph quickly put the pieces into place. See that green tip on the Surebonder glue gun? That helps to keep the area around the tip insulated and you safe from burns! I've had way fewer hot glue burns since switching to this brand.

Here we are finishing up the assembly by hot gluing the front into place.

We added a few brad nails for extra security although nails or screws could be used. We gave both units a couple of coats of clear spray to finish them off.

The units are hung with French cleats--one side of the cleat goes on the unit, the other on the wall. That red line is from a laser level which is helping insurer both storage units are level to each other.

We added a variety of Wall Control hooks to hold everything. Filled up the treat jars and we were done!

Now Steph has everything she and Mac need at the ready for a quick walk or a mid-afternoon snack. Plus, the human and dog treats are storage up high out of the reach of a very nosey greyhound!
