I just love covering things in fabric to transform and breathe life into them again. This plain lampshade was a quick little project to do just that. Let's get started with this decoupaged patchwork lamp DIY!

Lovely Patchwork Lampshade

I chose fabrics that would give pattern, texture, and a cool and warm mix of colors. I used leftover pieces of fabric along with some thin cotton squares that are made for crafts.

Plain lampshade ready to decoupage

1. Apply Mod Podge before the fabric

I applied Mod Podge Matte Sealant with a sponge applicator directly onto the lampshade surface. I started from the top and worked downwards being careful to cover the shade with no gaps - there needs to be a little overlap between pieces of fabric.

2. Apply Mod Podge after the fabric

Continue until the whole lampshade is covered, then apply another generous layer of Mod Podge over the top. Sometimes, I found it easier to turn the lampshade upside down to place the fabric accurately.

Using Mod Podge over the fabric to seal firm

3. Add trim

I decided to use a sweet little turquoise bobble trim around the top and bottom edges to bring the piece to life! I carefully glued the trim into place with Mod Podge and slowly pressed it firmly in place as I moved all the way around. This part cant be rushed!
