These easy DIY wax air fresheners are a fun twist on traditional wax ornaments. Not only are they shaped like unicorns, they are a cute way to decorate your favorite spaces in need of a fresh scent. Learn how to make your own DIY unicorn wax air fresheners to give as DIY gifts or to use in your own home throughout the year.

My boyfriend bought me an amazing unicorn soap mold for Christmas. This is my first project with that mold. I thought that making unicorn air fresheners was a great way to enjoy something new that would also last forever.

I did run into a snafu when I was finally ready to make my DIY wax unicorn air fresheners. Believe it or now it as a storage fail. As in my boyfriend stacked my crates of crafting supplies on top of the kitchen cabinets in a way that I was unable to get them down without his help. Since I was in the mood to DIY and not about to wait around, I improvised this project a bit. So rather than using just beeswax for my air fresheners, I ended up combining beeswax and stearic acid that were within reach. Lucky for me, they turned out perfect.

If you'd like to use beeswax for your air fresheners, I recommend using white cosmetic beeswax. Otherwise the yellow color from natural beeswax will affect the final color of your DIY wax air fresheners.

However, you don't have to use beeswax. In fact, there are a number of different waxes that you can use. You can combine more than one wax. Or you can choose a vegan vegetable based wax as well. Check out the variety of waxes you can use here. (Plus you'll find my exact recipe!)

Once you've determined the wax you'd like to use, melt the wax in double boiler over medium-low heat. (Or you can use the double boiler method with a saucepan of water and a glass measuring cup.)

Once melted remove from heat and stir in an essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice. For harder waxes you can use up to about 25% fragrance to your amount of wax.

Stir in a bit of mica powder or soap colorant to tint your DIY unicorn wax air fresheners. Remember that as the wax cools, the color you choose will lighten due to the opaque color of the wax. You can also stir in some biodegradable glitter.

Next, pour the scented and tinted wax into your mold. Place chopsticks near the top of the mold cavities in which you poured the wax. Press down gently and hold them in place until they stay on their own.

Allow the wax to cool and fully harden. Then unmold your unicorn wax air fresheners. Push the chopsticks through the front of the air fresheners so there's a hole going all the way through the unicorn.

Now add ribbon to your air fresheners by using the chopsticks to push ribbon through the holes you made at the top.

Now you can hang your completed unicorn wax air fresheners in a closet or in a drawer as a scented sachet to freshen clothing. You can also hang them in a sunny window for fresh scent in your home throughout the day.

Note that the estimated cost of this project is high only because you'd need to purchase the mold I used. If desired you can use a mold you already have. Also keep in mind that if you do buy this amazing unicorn mold, you can use it for more projects - like soap or bath bombs - in the future.
