Budget-Friendly Patio Ideas for Renters

Here’s a great way to spruce your patio if you’re a renter. Obviously, you can’t do anything permanent but a relaxing patio can be yours with just an afternoon of gardening and a quick trip to your local dollar store.

The Dollar Store sells small planters and hanging baskets for yes - just a buck each! Fill them with your favorite herbs and flowers. Use inexpensive plant markers from Target or your local hardware store to label each planter. Or make your own out of scrap wood or popsicle sticks! This makes such a charming touch to your outdoor patio.

No patio can be complete without somewhere to sit! You don’t need to spend a lot of money on fancy furniture. Look to your local thrift stores or Walmart for the outdoor furniture, then make your own outdoor cushion from waterproof fabric at Joann’s. A lot of times you can find outdoor fabric, made specially to weather the elements, on sale at craft stores. It just takes a bit of digging but the savings are worth it.

So, even if you live in an apartment, you can still make a budget-friendly patio space that’s dreamy and relaxing this summer.

Front Yard Patio Ideas

Don’t have a back porch to decorate? No problem! You can create one in your front yard just the same. It’s perfect for taking in those summer breezes and saying hello to your neighbors. All you need to do is clear some room in your front yard. Dig away the grass area, if necessary, and lay down some beautiful pavers or gravels to define your patio area. Some large boulders and/or retaining walls help to further define the space and give you a bit of privacy from the front. It also gives folks a place to sit when they drop by. You can also create a covered porch by adding a pergola overhead, or perhaps plan ahead and create your front yard oasis under a nice big shady tree. Hometalk has a ton more of these front yard patio ideas just waiting for you!

Hot Tub Patio Ideas

It can be tricky to incorporate your hot tub or jacuzzi in your patio space. Sometimes the hot tub can feel completely detached from the patio, throwing off the whole design. Well, worry no more! Here are some ideas to help make that hot tub feel more connected to your outdoor space.

For starters, if you can build your patio or deck around the hot tub so you step down into it rather than climb into it, this makes a huge difference. Try to match the outside of your hot tub material with the decking material to even further support the design.

However, building a whole new deck is not an easy project to take on. Here’s a much easier hot tub patio idea. Just landscape! Buy some pretty planters and arrange them around your hot tub. If you plant some taller bushes or trees in the planters, you will even create some privacy for yourself. Also, add pops of color with pillows to your existing porch furniture. This will really help your patio feel like an extension of your home. I can think of no better way to ease into summer than taking a dip in your beautiful hot tub!

After a good cleaning of your screened in patio, lay down a colorful indoor/outdoor rug. A small table and chairs make a great addition and perfect place to play cards or have lunch or dinner. A screened in porch is also a great place to hang wreaths! You may not be able to hang wreaths outdoors but since your porch is covered - wreaths are fair game. A few floral wreaths scattered around will add so much to the space. Speaking of hanging things - don’t forget that you can add some art too! A few candles and a vase of florals and I would say your screened in porch is looking a lot better for the summer.

Add DIY furniture to your Patio with Pallets

Pallets are one of the most versatile items out there. There is so much you can do with them and they are cheap! In fact, sometimes you can get them for free if you know who to ask and where to go. For this stylish patio idea, you are making patio furniture out of these sturdy wooden pallets. Patio furniture can be so expensive, and this is a great way to fill in a space to the exact dimensions you need for a great cost. After making your pallet furniture, be sure to add a few colorful outdoor cushions and throw pillows for comfort. Your local crafts stores like Michael’s and Joann’s sell the cushion foam and all you need is some beautiful outdoor fabric to make a cushion cover. What a fantastic idea!
