Hey Hometalk! In this project, we'll show you how we made a DIY chevron headboard for a king-size bed.

This bed is a bit different than the DIY farmhouse bedroom set we recently shared, but the build was similar. The key difference is the chevron style! Let us show you how we did it:

4x4 posts together

1. Add the 4x4 posts and side railing

Similar to the other bed, you'll want to add the 4x4 posts and the side railing the same way.

The spin here is to make a different design.

2. Cut the boards at 45 degrees

You will start by making all of the cuts 45 degrees. Then flip the boards up against each other and face up.

3. Assemble the chevron design

Repeat this until you have a chevron pattern like the one pictured here.

Trimming the edges

4. Trim the edges

The last step for the DIY chevron headboard was to trim off the edges that hang off the end. Use a circular saw, and then add a nice trim to hold everything together.

Tip: Having a rectangular shape laid out helps make sure you are making each piece long enough to reach the end of the frame. This is shown in the picture above.

Spray staining the bed

5. Assemble the rest of the bed & stain

Once the bed was put together, I sprayed on the stain with a sprayer. (This is a different bed, but I used the same technique)

I would try this, it looks simple enough for someone with basic tools and knowledge to do. My question is? Since most boards are not straight, once the 45 is cut, how do you keep the board toward the outside from bowing and a large space from showing between the two boards? Is it filled in with some kind of filler?

Beautiful job. And I love the idea of spraying the stain , so going to try this! Since spraying the stain it would be a very light coat did you have to wait a few minutes wipe down and repeat until you reached the color depth you were aiming for ?

The resource list shows a gel stain which is very thick. Did you use a gel stain in your sprayer or a traditional stain?
