I had a tired dull looking window roller blind in my guest room and thought it would be good to experiment with some batik fabrics I had left over from another project on it!

I came up with a wild African theme as it is close to my heart. Modpodge and sponge applicators are all that’s needed with some fabric pieces.

Before transformation

I lay the roller blind out flat so I could begin to work on it. I started to use the natural colours of the fabric to be the rocks and landscape and the batik has a lovely natural marble effect that helps with the texture.

Roller blind

I cut around the shapes I feel will be useable and some natural animal shapes that were in the fabric but you could draw from inspirational images you find.

Cutting batik fabric

I have in mind some shapes and see on the fabric what they may be turned into.

Shapes cut from fabric

I lay the shapes out onto the blind and try and work out the best place to stick them for a nice balanced interesting scene.

Laying pieces out

I decide where the pieces need to go and begin sticking them down with mod podge hard coat sealant and I only use it on the fabric not over the top on this project.

Sticking with Mod Podge

I continue with the sticking down until I am happy with placement of animals and rocks.

I am so delighted with my final transformed African inspired scene blind!

You have given me an idea! I could use spray adhesive to adhere to shades or blinds to attach material from pillow cases, etc. Thanks!
