8 Steps to Perfect Home Decorating

Follow these 8 steps for perfect home decorating. It's a system that always works, is recommended by so many, and you can add your own take on each step. There are more photos, ideas and details on each step on the blog.
Rule 5 - Group things in odd numbers. The eye looks for symmetry but is drawn to odd groups. Rule 8 - Group them by color, shape or texture. From throw pillows, vases, frames or candlesticks, this a rule that works well.
Here is the infographic outlining each step starting with that old scoundrel decluttering. There are a few different systems you can use to remove, store or donate things that clutter your rooms.
Rule 6 - Paint any dated finishes. It's not always possible to makeover your kitchen or bathroom but with a little muscle, paint and patience you can update, disguise or hide, your outdated finishes.
Rule 3 - Recycle or remodel different areas of your home to get more from them. An office in a guest room, a craft room in the basement, a mudroom in a hallway. There are lots of ways to rethink and get more from your spaces.
Rule 1 - Declutter. Whether you use the 5 minute rule, baskets, garbage bags or four piles. Once a day, week or month, you need to declutter, give away or donate things you no longer need. See what you are left with before you add more to your rooms.
Rule 8 - Accent furnishings and accessories. Do you like to spend more on high-end accessories like side tables and throws to create a luxurious look or are you more likely to spend more on your sofa, rugs and curtains?
Accessories and accent furniture includes clocks, throw cushions, ottoman, lamps, armchair and consoles. They can change a look quickly using color, patterns and texture- see more on the blog.
