Seekonk Dream Kitchen
After getting married 6 years ago, Eli & Melissa eagerly bought their first home. The kitchen was outdated and impractical, but it was their first home they loved it because it was theirs! Three kids later, they realized their cute 2-bedroom Cape was no longer meeting their needs. They planned on buying an older home in the town they grew up in but couldn't find their "dream home." While on the search, a new development was being constructed in their most desired area of town. They were reluctant about new construction and afraid of getting a cookie-cutter spec home. However, the developer worked well with clients, and they felt like they could get that custom feel to their new home.

During the construction, the builder oversaw the entire project, but Eli & Melissa had a lot of say in the selections. The end result was exactly what they wanted; complete with a fireplace that replicated the one in their original home!

To learn more about their project we asked Eli & Melissa a few questions:

What inspired your color pallet? "We wanted some contrast, so we went with very dark countertops and light cabinetry. We wanted something polished looking to bring the kitchen together and the glass tile backsplash was the perfect solution. As we get around to decorating, we like to include colorful and unique pieces, so we kept the overall pallet pretty neutral to allow us more freedom with things like art, throw pillows, etc."

Did you use a designer or architect on your project? "We made all of the decisions ourselves, but gladly welcomed the input of experts, such as the builder and the cabinet specialists. We enjoyed making selections and we tend to be pretty decisive people so it was not too overwhelming."

What was your favorite thing about the tile you used for your backsplash? "The color and texture of the glass tiles is eye-catching; it adds a nice transition from the shiny gray granite tops to the soft vanilla color of the cabinets."

Lastly, do you have any design tips or things learned through your project? "Looking at photos was very helpful to us. It allowed us to better visualize the final project. Additionally, whenever possible, we tried to hold actual samples side-by-side (for example, holding up the granite sample to the cabinet sample to the paint sample). We are so happy we ordered samples of the backsplash tiles first. We loved the way the "Cloud" tile has the slightest bluish/turquoise tint to it - it was not a pure white as some might expect. By seeing it in person, we knew it would add subtle color and interest to our kitchen."
