Exacting every ounce of creativity from a woeful old chair. Give her new clothes and updated makeup.
Thanks to The Graphics Fairy for featuring this fun little poppy chair:

This chair was actually on it's way to the dump. Some nasty stuff in her innards. Stripping the worn fabric first. Replacing springs and foam.

The chair is actually an office chair. I am contemplating installing old fashioned caster feet.
I bought five yards of cream canvas duck and painted a couple of yards with a large damask in black. Don't make the same mistake I did and not size or iron your duck. Oh dear that sounded funny...
I am sorry to the true professionals out there that see this reupholstery job. Oh Dear...
After the chair was completely recovered I started to randomly hand draw my poppies.
Butterflies, birds and French script fill in the odd spot.
The fun begins. I start to fill in the bright, hot colors.
Design and balance are critical on the design.
As I get more and more detail, I add small flourishes. I have to step back once in a while because I have a habit of overdoing.

Thanks for visiting.

Update: The Graphics Fairy just posted and reviewed my poppy chair: http://thegraphicsfairy.com/painted-fabric-chair-reader-featured-project/

Thanks to The Graphics Fairy. sk
In the midst of re-upholstering and painting, I had 120 lbs. tomatoes to can. I couldn't tell which was prettier to my eye the tomatoes or the chair. What? You didn't think I wouldn't color coordinate my canning?

Hi. It’s absolutely beautiful. What kind of paints did you use? And did you use a medium with them?

      Hi Andrea,

Thanks so much. This was a taxing but fun challenge.

I use water based acrylics on my chairs. They wear like iron.

      Thanks for visiting.
