We had an old sewing cabinet that had the sewing machine removed from the cabinet. We have seen coolers made from these before and decided to try it out. It was a fairly easy project to undertake. We hope you like it!

So here it is! Not in bad shape, but needed a little livening up.

It had a drawer that was a little fun hidden spot.

In order to fit an enamel pan that we acquired in the opening, we had to make a few cuts.

Here it is from the underneath side. We attached 4 pieces of wood on the underside of the opening to hold the pan. The pan can be removed easily from the top.

After we painted it this great aqua color, it was time to distress it! Then, we sealed it with a polyacrylic so it could be outside.

Distressing done. Don’t you love it!

We spray painted the pulls white and added a towel bar and bottle opener ( not shown here).

Here is is open.

And here it is all ready for a party!

And a side view with the bottle opener. Isn’t this a fun piece! Hope you like it as much as we do.🙋🏻

I have a similar sewing table that I want to convert. My question/concern is that when the table is open, how to you keep it/support it from falling over? W hen the sewing machine is still in the cabinet, the weight of the sewing machine balances out the open lid. But when the sewing machine is removed, thus removing the weight, I am concerned that if someone leans in the open top, or if I have bottles and glasses sitting on the open top, it may tilt over. We are trying to figure out a way to add a leg to fold out for support. Any thoughts?

I am in the process of making a patio cooler from a cabinet just like this! I found mine at Goodwill. This will be the 3rd one I’ve done. I love how you were able to use an enamel pan. I’m always looking for ideas!
