Grab your Cricut Maker and Rotary Blade and you can create a custom felt hanging mobile in any color of the rainbow…or all of them!

I am a novice sewer. There. I said it.

I kept seeing gorgeous nursery mobiles and figured there had to be a no-sew way to create them, so I grabbed my Cricut Maker! The Cricut Rotary Blade cuts felt like a dream, and the Xyron Creative Station Lite allowed me to make this felt hanging mobile without having to worry about getting out my sewing machine. Think of the possibilities!

Here are the supplies you will need:

  • Cricut Maker
  • Cricut Rotary Blade (included with your Maker)
  • Cricut Fabric Mat
  • Cricut Brayer (optional)
  • Xyron Creative Station Lite with permanent adhesive refill
  • felt – I used Cricut Felt as well as other felt brands/colors
  • twine or string
  • scissors
  • large metal or wood ring
  • small metal or wood ring

Step 1: In Cricut Design Space click on the shapes button and select the circle shape. I made my circles 1″ – but you can make them whatever size you like. Heck – you can make whatever shape you’d like too!

Step 2: Decide on the number of circles you want for each color on your mobile and double that number (since you will be adhering circles to each other).

Step 3: Once you’ve selected your machine and material, click the “edit tools” button and select Rotary Blade as your cutting tool. You CAN cut felt with the fine point blade, but the Rotary Blade cuts so much more smoothly and the circles come out perfectly every time.

Step 4: Start cutting! *Tip: use the Cricut Brayer to smooth the felt on to your fabric mat before you begin.

Step 5: Once you’ve cut your circles divide each color pile in half and run one pile through the Xyron Creative Station Lite (with permanent refill). Set aside.

Step 6: Lay out your circles on your work area in columns. This gives you a chance to visualize your mobile, decide how many columns you want for your mobile, etc. Adjust as needed.

Step 7: Once you’ve finalized your columns, cut string/twine several inches longer than your columns and lay over the circles.

Step 8: Begin at the bottom of the column, adhering the circles together with the string in between. The adhesive will hold the string in place. You can adjust the distance between the circles as you go.

Step 9: Once the columns are completed, cut three or four lengths of string, tie to smaller ring, then tie other end to large ring and trim excess string.

Step 10: Tie each column of circles to the large metal ring, then trim excess string.

Step 11: Hang and enjoy!

And voila! With just a few sheets of felt and your Cricut Maker, you can easily create your own (no-sew) Felt Hanging Mobile!

I have a dog & cat and the fur would stick to the felt. How do you clean the mobile?
