Second Hand Item Becomes a Treasured House Warming Gift
I was heading over to see a friend who had just gotten a new home and was in a pickle of trying to figure out a nice housewarming gift.
So I went through my craft room and came across some items that I thought would work great. It is always fun to see what a little imagination can do.
When I am out shopping I always pick up items that are interesting and I think that I can do something with them down the road. So when I came across this distressed frame half off and only a dollar I grabbed it. I had a seen a similar idea but in a larger scale. I didn’t want this to be an overwhelming gift she would feel she had to put on the wall even if she did not like it. smaller was good
There was some cleaning up that needed to be done. Since it was already distressed I could remove some of the gouges with my fine sanding block. I wiped it down and put a matt finish clear coat on it.
I cleaned the glass off and figured out what I wanted to say. Next I used my vinyl cutter and made letters and for the glass but you could also use precut letters. I didn’t want mine on exterior of glass so my cricut could cut the letters mirror for me. I figured out borders and applied on inside if glass turned it over and this how it turned out. But it was the final touch that completed my wall art.
Printed out vintage map sized it down to fit the inside of frame.
The colors popped more when I actually printed it out to an 8x10.
All I can say is wow it turned out much better then expected. Now she has a nice personal gift that also is Great Wall art. All in about an hour.
