Paint Your Fireplace Brass Trim for an Instant Updated Look!

We have an 80’s fireplace. I’ve been debating for a while about white washing the brick - I just can’t bring myself to make such a permanent change…yet. So, instead of painting the brick, I knew I could give it an updated look with minimal effort by painting the brass trim.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Cleaning materials

Painter’s tape

Paper / plastic

High heat paint or spray paint (black)

Let’s get started!

ONE

Clean the fireplace. Be sure the brass trim you are going to paint is clean and dry.

TWO

Cover all other areas that you will NOT be painting. I used a painter’s tape and paper to cover the glass. I also used a drop cloth to cover the brick while painting.

THREE

Spray your brass trim with HIGH HEAT paint. It’s super important that you be sure it’s HIGH HEAT. Anything else could start a fire.

FOUR

Remove the tape and paper / plastic.

Friends, it’s that simple. By painting those brass trim pieces black, the fireplace looks far better than it did before! I’m still debating what to do with the wood handles - any suggestions?

P.S. - Do you see those adorable plants? They are still going strong. See my plant guide for beginners, here.

A little paint and fresh new look. Hate brass. The brivk looks pretty good. It is lighter in color than a lot of other fireplaces. Not overpowering but a mild focal point. May consider a mantle and chunky shelf.

Thank you! I’ve debated painting the brick white.. but I just can’t bring myself to do it yet.
