Vintage & Handmade Cabinet Rescued and Modernized Just a Little.

This small cabinet was handmade and covered in several layers of paint. It was in a house that was going to be sold and the daughter gave me this little gem. It had enough potential to make it worth a little face lift.
It was all white inside and out...at first!
The cabinet was all white when it was given to me but that was only the top coat. There was also a layer of green, pink and gray. Lots and lots of layers!
One shelf and sliding doors
The detail on the sliding doors is a little too "country" for my taste but we'll soon fix that.
Yay! We've made it to the bottom!
A lot of paint stripper and we have finally found the real wood top.
Ouch?
Lots and lots of scratches and gouges were hidden under all that paint.
Pretty?
It took a lot of sanding but it's looking good now. Stained and a few coats of polyurethane and it's great!
Chalk painted inside.
The inside of the cabinet and the detail of the doors were painted with homemade chalk paint. But I still didn't like that country look that the doors had.
Both sides had huge ugly "knot holes".
Both sides had huge ugly knot holes that just didn't stain well and were still ugly even under paint so I Mod Podged fabric panels to each side and polyurethaned over the fabric. (Notice those sliding doors?)
That "too country" cabinet door is gone now!
I used Fascade back splash panels to cover the grooved country look of the sliding doors. Just cut it with scissors and used double-sided tape to adhere to the door. New hardware and I'm happy with it. As a matter of fact...my TV sits on it now!
