Back-to-School Coat Closet Makeover

Frustrated with my tiny coat closet and a lack of a spot for things like backpacks, shopping bags and my purse, I dreamed of a demo and a new entryway bench with hooks and shelves. But with so many other projects in queue (and a hesitant hubby), I decided to work with what I had (if even temporarily), and gave my front closet a mini-makeover! In less than two hours (including painting), I created a much more functional space!
A free quart of turquoise paint from Ace was the perfect start to a refreshed closet!
My favorite baskets from The Container Store worked way better on the shelf than what I'd previously been using, and some simple tags from Staples provided cute labels for winter gear.
These baskets are also shorter than the ones I previously used, so now we can add another shelf above to maximize vertical storage space!
It only took a few minutes to stick up 3M hooks inside the door for backpacks and on the shelf support for my purse and shopping bags.
This ClosetMaid organizer worked great to corral daycare kids' shoes while leaving space for our own, and left enough floor space for the vacuum.
