13 Year Old Bistro Set Got a Makeover With Rust-Oleum Spray Paint

Today I am sharing our old bistro set and how I gave it a makeover with Rust-Oleum Spray Paint in Apple Red.
I also liked it by our Rainboot Garden and shot a few pictures there too.
Here’s how it started or the before. I have had this forest green plastic bistro set since my daughter was 4 or 5 so that’s 12-13 years old and the top had chips in the color and just looked shabby.
I love the way Rust-Oleum Spray paint worked on our Plastic Adirondack Chairs (see other post) and thought this would be so beautiful done in their Apple Red. I’m loving pops of color in our back yard and also like to use this on our side porch especially at the holidays like it is here below. (December 2013)
I received this beautiful 2x Ultra Cover Spray Paint in Apple Red and Brilliant Blue. I was so excited to get this goody pack in the mail. When I buy it I get it Home Depot for about $4 a can. Michaels also carries it for about $7 and they usually have a 40% off coupon you can get from your phone too.
I layed out my paint cloths and when I spray paint I usually cover a pretty big area to protect the cement or plants from any after spray.

The thing that is fantastic about this paint is it is 2X Ultra cover and has primer and paint in it. So you don't need to sand (if you do that's a bonus) and you just need to clean it, and wash off any dirt. See our plastic chairs below too.
Then I just took my time and sprayed a layer or coat on and then watered for a while. It was 90 the other day so this paint dried pretty quickly.
I just sprayed and hit it from different angles too to get into the grooves. I sprayed about 3 coats of paint on this set over a couple hours (and it was 94 degrees here in Cali so it dried very fast) and then let it set out all day to dry. It’s usually best to let it set for 24-48 hours before sitting on it to make sure it’s good and dry.
This sprays on so evenly and beautifully that when you’re all done it literally looks brand new. We had my husbands 50th Luau Party on Saturday (see post for that) and several friends asked me where I got this and were shocked that it was the 13 year old set. They couldn’t believe it. I LOVE the way it turned out and will use it all over our yard, porches and for several holidays too.
Here are the three plastic Adirondack Chairs I spray painted with the same Apple Red and Brilliant Blue. We used this area as a photo booth area for the party and its a great place to just sit and relax and watch the kids swim.
Above are our plastic Adirondack chairs that were spray painted about 2 months ago and they still look brand new and I just hose them off when I need too. No chips or anything.

It is amazing how some time and spray paint can totally transform the look of your furniture and how you feel about it too.
I’m really pleased with my new and improved Apple Red Bistro Set for sure.

I was so excited to meet the great people from Rust-Oleum and even more excited when they sent me the Apple Red Spray Paint to us for this project. I was compensated with the Spray Paint for this post but all my opinions are my own of course. @Rust-Oleum ing Ready.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day, Lisa

I love the gumboots idea, but as those plastic deck chairs deteriorate from sunlight and tend to break their legs, do you or anyone know of a way of preventing this? I don't want to saw the legs off.

Is thAt Bistro set hard plastic or metal? I have one that looks like yours but it’s hard plastic.

I love the red paint color of your lawn furniture !!!! I see this kind of furniture, normally in a black, and it is used as a lawn ornament, never to actually relax in. Thank you for sharin' !!!

Love the set. I think it would look nice to add some black to balance it. I have a plastic bistro set too and you just gave me inspiration to do mine! It shows rust from dripping from the roof and has sat there for years. I was skeptical about painting mine as I was concerned about if I DID paint them, if they would chip. I definitely will be trying my hand at this! Will post pics if I am successful!???
