Setting up an organic vegetable garden with free run hens. I’m building an urban backyard business.

my goal is to build and maintain a viable business with core values in quality over quantity.

My yard is a huge hill. First job is reinforce tiers to grow on.

This is a full sun deck which is not useded currently and I’m going to convert to a raised bed garden for vegetables.

Leveling and compacting tiers to make the yard more usable.

used compactor to make sure it’s going to stay put.

This is the before pictures of the yard facing south. There is a deck that gets too much sun so it will be the new raised bed vegetable garden.

before I reinforced the west side of the hill in the back yard. Here there is mostly full sun. And is easy to access.

This the backyard before picture. It’s an incredible undertaking now that I look back at where I started.

To be honest in the beginning If I didn’t just go for it I would never have gotten here.

The demolition and layout design phase.

Hired a crane to install these 5000 lbs blocks, that lock together like lego that act as a retaining wall for a very inexpensive solution. The savings was $30k at least. That said it was back breaking work. This was definitely the hardest task of the project.

As you can see I didn’t start off with very fertile soil.

You can see behind the retaining wall the wall was collapsing. This saved me a huge amount of money as a building solution.

The yard is now completely stabilized and allow for tiers to use maximum amount of the yard. I was able to increase 35% of usable land space. Opening a revenue stream.

I’m going to build raised beds here for vegetables.

This is the top tier of the yard. Looks great from here. Get a great amount of light for growing.

I have a huge south west balcony that I’m going to try growing here too.
