Today I’ll show you just how easy it is to spruce up your front door for the spring and summer months with a hoop wreath. They are easy to store and switch out for every season.

Hoop wreaths are easy and fun to make. I check out what is on sale at my local craft store {like Joanne’s or Hobby Lobby} before I get started. I only buy my faux flower stems and greenery when they are at least 40% off. The floral department generally has sales once or twice a month, and always check the clearance stems. I also watch for the ribbon and embroidery hoops to go on sale. If your a bargain hunter, check your local thrift store for embroidery hoops and ribbon remanents. Once you’ve gathered your materials decide if you want your hoop spray painted or left the wood color. Hint: if you are using lightweight stems you can separate the hoop and get two wreaths out of one hoop. Which will bring the cost of the wreath down just a bit.

While the hoop is drying decide how you want your wreath to look. Greenery only on one side. Cascading flowers. Bunched flowers. Greenery going up both sides. The possibilities are endless. Once you know how you’d like them, cut the stems off the flowers leaving about 1-1 1/2 inches on the stem. This will help with attaching the flower to the hoop.

Once the paint is dry, keeping the hardware end down {so that it will be covered up by all the greenery}. Start with the first layer- in this case the greenery. Wrapping the floral wire around the stem and in several other places to secure it to the hoop. Then trim off the excess stem with the floral cutters or scissors. Then add the flower buds one at a time, again wrapping the floral wire around both the stem and the hoop to secure the bud in place.

TIP: I like to use 2 greenery stems to 3 flowers.

HINT: you can use a drop of hot glue before wrapping the wire around the stem but it is not necessary.

Once your hoop is complete, decide where you’d like to hang it.

TIP: if hanging it on a door that gets used a lot {like a front door} and the flower stems protrude just a bit place a drop of hot glue on the tips to keep them from scratching the paint on the door. Then choose your favorite ribbon or burlap ribbon to hang it with. I prefer a thicker width ribbon. Then hang on your door.

I like to use lots of different florals and stems. I also like to hang them on both outside doors, like a front door, and inside doors, like our bedroom door. There are many different sizes of hoops. You can make smaller wreaths to hang on your kitchen cabinet doors.

I also like to change them up for the different seasons and holidays. You can be as creative as you like, adding many different elements and textures to your wreaths.
