One more VERY important thing to do when arranging flowers...something every florist does. All leaves should be stripped off the stems that will be below the water level. Leaves below the water get slimey and cause a build up of bacteria that cause stems to clog so they can't take up water. The water should be changed every two or three days if possible. Also, all flower stems should be cut on an angle before placing in a container. The reason so many fresh flowers wilt is because they aren't getting water. The bottoms of the stems dry up and can't take up water if not put into water very soon after cutting. Need flowers to open more quickly? Cut the stems and put them in very warm water.

This has been a flower arranging method for years, only using the narrow floral tape on the tops of indoor vases so you can't see it.

You can get the floral tape she talks about at any craft place or Florist--comes in green and brown--has a bit of stretch to it too.
