These DIY disinfecting wipes make it easy to keep your home clean without chemicals. They’re easy to make, natural, and reusable — just wash and re-use! We created these homemade cleaning wipes without vinegar, so they're safe for use on porous surfaces like marble and granite.

What you will need for this simple and economical project:

  • mason jar with lid
  • vodka
  • essential oils
  • Castile soap
  • distilled water
  • old cotton T-shirt cut into squares or cotton cloths

Pour the vodka into a mason jar. A sterilized pickle jar can also work in a pinch.

Next, add your essential oils which will combine easily with the alcohol. Shake the mixture vigorously. Then add the distilled water and shake once again.

For a list of the essential oils we recommend for cleaning, please see our post

here.

Next, slowly add the Castile soap and gently swirl it into the mixture. Please note, shaking the mixture at this point will cause the Castile soap to sud so swirl gently!

Cut an old white T-shirt into squares and roll as shown. You can also use reusable cotton cloths. Place the rolled squares into your mason jar.

Place the lid on your mason jar and again swirl gently so the wipes become soaked with the liquid.

You should store your sanitizing wipes with the lid tightly secured in a cool, dark place such as under the kitchen or bathroom sink.

Your DIY sanitizing wipes should last approximately 3-4 weeks if stored correctly.

It’s cheaper and more effective to use rubbing alcohol at 70 to 90% than vodka at 40% alcohol.
