I love experimenting with ways to bring more colour into the home for a cheery and uplifting vibe. I decided to try on cotton fabric cushion cover a vibrant design using some unicorn spit gel stain.

Plain cotton cushion cover

First I use masking tape to position flat on table the plastic bag that the cushion cover came in.

then I decide which vibrant colours to use in my circle design.

I create more circles of colour .

And more circles!

And even more! When finished, I spray the paint all over with water.

spray with more water to spread the paint evenly .

Spray with more water

Then I cover with cotton cushion cover and once in position spray over the top with water to help design soak through.

Place cushion cover over paint

I begin spreading the paint gently from centre to outer edges to create the desired effect.

Spreading paint outwards

Peel away the cover from the uni orb spit gel. Revealing a beautiful design to hang out to dry before covering with protective fixing spray.

so delighted with the colourful cushion cover makeover.

Using your technique on this type fabric, does the design "paint" both sides (is the back of the pillow tie dyed also)? Your technique is terrific! 😎

I love what you've done Susan. I missed the sealing part though. What did you use to seal the colours and make it "washproof". Thanks.

Could you maybe do this with regular fabric paint or tie dye paint? It seems like you could. If you water it all down and all. The colors should run like the ones shown here, right? Just saying if the Unicorn Spit is too expensive. Very pretty! I love it! 🌻💕😊🌈🕊️✌️
