I found this table set at a local garage sale, and I knew it would need some serious love because the family that I bought it from had three young children, and they had shown the tables a lot of love. With that being said, I felt like I could not turn them down, I loved the detail below the table top.

This is the beautiful detail that I love on this set. I could not turn it away after I noticed it!

The tops of each table had seen better days. They were peeling, covered in stickers and small drops of nail polish. Typical well loved table set from a family with curious kids.

I started by giving the table tops a light sanding with a hand sander.

I used a 160 grit piece of sand paper, and a lot of arm muscle.

I loved the curved detail. It adds a little more character than just a typical rectangle or oval.

I flipped the tables upside down so they would lay flat on the top that way I would use less paint tape and less time taping. I don't know about you, but I despise taping.

This Minwax Gel Stain is my go-to for all of my projects that I want to have a durable top. This stain adds a nice top coat layer, helps hide blemishes, and gives a clean finished look.

The table tops got two coats of Minwax Gel Stain.

The complete finished product compliments the details well without taking away from it.

I love the matte black chalk paint and how to contrasts with the dark brown top.~

I have similar style, very loved furniture...but there are small pieces of the laminated wood missing...how would I repair those areas? Thanks!

Did you paint the whole piece and then gel stain the top? Or did you paint the bottom and gel stain the top?
