Scrabble tile framed art is easy and inexpensive to make. Customize it to make the perfect addition to your home decor.

I ran across the concept of Scrabble tile framed art and thought it’d be a great addition to my bookshelf. The best part is, I got the Scrabble game for free from a second hand book store that keeps a “FREE” bin by their door. Yes, the box was a bit water damaged, but the Scrabble tiles were in perfect shape.

Here is what you'll need:

-5x5 picture frame

-chalk paint/paint brush

-sandpaper

-white cardstock

-ruler/pencil

-Scrabble tiles

-twine

The first thing I did was to paint the picture frame with chalk paint. I started with a coat of white but decided to go over it with a color called Plaster, which is more of an off white. Once dried, I sanded with a 120 grit sanding sponge to rough it up and give it a more rustic feel.

Next I used my computer to find the definition of "home". I found a few I liked so combined them and typed it in Word. I printed it out on cardstock which is much thicker than regular printer paper. The scrabble tiles add some weight so I wanted to make sure my paper wouldn't bend.

Once printed, I placed the glass from the frame on it and traced a cutting line and cut to size.

Next I marked the center of the paper with a ruler and laid out the Scrabble tiles. Once they were where I wanted them, I hot glued them to the paper.

I placed the paper back into the frame WITHOUT the glass. To dress it up, I took twine and wound it around the side about five times. Then I made a bow 1/3 of the way down. So easy and versatile too. Here's one I made for Christmas. Possibilities are endless!

I used a piece of an old Scrabble board and letter tiles to spell out my daughter's and son-in-laws first name and connected that to their last name, just as if you were playing the game. Was able to find a frame deep enough with glass. Looks great and made a nice gift.
