Found 3 old farm scoops at an antique store that were covered in red paint. Figured I'd find some way to use them! Had numerous old pallet wood around the garage waiting for a project. Decided to sand down the 3 red scoops a little bit, allowing the old red paint to show in some places.

Painted a 36" piece of pallet first with black paint, let dry. White watered down paint went next and after it dried, sanded it down to look weathered.

Screwed the 3 red (now silver) scoops to the pallet board and screwed pallet board to kitchen wall. Added Basil, oregano and parsley to the scoops. My new kitchen herb garden!

Red scoops

Kind of the before pic prior to sanding.

Lightly sanded

Held them in a vice and turned it while using my sander, 80 grit paper.

Pallet board

Sanded, painted black, let dry. Watered down white paint over black, let dry. Sanded down board to allow natural, black and white to come through to give it that distressed look.

Attached to wall

Screwed the 3 scoops, now silver, to pallet board and screwed that to kitchen wall.

Voila! Herb garden.

Planted basil, oregano and parsley in them!

Suggested materials:
  • Pallet board, paint, 3 antique feed scoops,   (Flea market for scoops. Had old pallets and black and white paint.)
  • Herbs   (Leftover from my garden.)

This is really cute. I hope you either checked the red paint for lead or left your herbs in their containers before dropping them in the scoops. I love the way it looks.
