Easy to Build Pallet Coffee Table
I work in the Manufacturing industry. When we order cutting dies (for boxes), they sometimes come partially crated on pallets to protect them from damage during shipping. Since I am the one that unpacks them, I get to take the wood home and I was able to score a really cool half pallet at work that I thought would make the perfect coffee table!
The pallet piece measured roughly 44" long by 22" wide. It had boards on top of 2x4s (as skids), and was in excellent shape except for a few footprints. I sanded the entire pallet piece, inside and out, starting with 60 grit sandpaper and working my way to 220 grit.
Once I had it completely sanded, I stained the inside.
I cut a few boards to cover the bottom so that the coffee table would have storage for electronics remotes, coasters, etc. and attached them to the pallet piece after staining the inside faces.
I attached a board on what would be the back of the table to sort of close it off, then attached painted hairpin legs to the bottom.
It came out so great! We love it and it goes really well in our new front room!
I realize that these types of pallets aren't normally readily available so I plan on creating a furniture plan to build a pallet similar to this that can be distressed as desired! Stay tuned to the blog post for more information as well as a source for inexpensive metal hairpin legs!
