This was a super cheap and easy transformation project to change the entire look of my bedroom window. By spray painting the old curtain pole and changing the curtains I was able to blend in this area of the room with the rest of the decor.

This is the before look of the bedroom. I decided to change the entire look from floral to more of a neutral farmhouse look. So the floral curtains had to go and I chose simple white curtains to go in their place. However, the curtain pole, which I had picked out three years ago with a floral/cottage style bedroom in mind, no longer matched the room. So a few coats of spray paint later it was ready to reuse!

Step one after taking down the curtain pole from the wall was to place it outside and spray 1-2 coats of primer. I was able to get good coverage and allow 15 minutes between each coat. The original surface of the curtain pole was not overly shiny so I didn’t spend time sanding it down. This would be preferable but since the pole will not be touched or have any wear and tear I decided to skip this step.

After the coats of primer I used a Matt black spray paint. I used 2 or 3 coats to get good coverage. I found using a lighter coat worked best to avoid runs.

The directions state to re-coat within an hour or after 24 which meant that I was able to get the painting done in the space of a morning while carrying on with other things in between re-coating.

While spraying the coats of paint I put the ends of the pole on a cardboard box for ease of spraying on the paint. For the pole I placed on a sheet at a diagonal angle so I could rotate the pole while spraying.

The paint is hard dry after 24 hours but I then left the pole for two days just to be sure before attaching the curtains.

Finally, I reattached the pole to the wall and the curtains slid easily onto the pole ready to be rehung.

Here is a before close up of the original pole and curtains. Another bonus was that since the new curtains slid straight onto the pole I was able to save a lot of time by not having to spray all the curtain rings that were in use originally!

And the finished look! A few coats of spray paint, a simple pair of curtains and a whole new bedroom window! Add a new duvet cover and some accessories and the entire look and feel of the room is totally different!
