Make your home smell like Fall with this easy pumpkin spice potpourri simmer pot. Plus, you can use the same ingredients to make delicious pumpkin cheesecake bars afterwards!

This super easy crock pot potpourri recipe uses all food ingredients.

What's even better is when the homemade potpourri is done simmering and has no more fragrance, you can use the cooked ingredients to make delicious layered pumpkin cheesecake bars with graham cracker crust.

This potpourri recipe can be used in either a crock pot or a regular pot on the stove. Whichever you prefer.

You will use a real pumpkin. It can be a small pie pumpkin. Just be sure that it is a pumpkin designed for making pie.

Surprisingly, not all pumpkins are grown to be eaten. Some are just for show and are not meant to consume.

If you're unsure, look for signs or labels at the grocery store or farmer's market that say "pumpkin for pie" or something like that.

Wash the outside of the pumpkin to get off dirt and debris.

Cut the pumpkin into slices carefully.

Add them into a crock pot or stock pot or saucepan.

You can remove the seeds or keep them. Either way works.

Add the remaining ingredients to the pot:

  • Fresh sage leaves
  • Brown sugar cubes or maple syrup, about ¼ of a cup
  • 1 - 2 teaspoons ground cloves

Cover with about 6 cups of water.

Allow the slow cooker to heat up on low for about 4 hours (uncovered), or on the stove for 1 to 2 hours.

Make sure there is enough water in the pot at all times.

When you are done simply turn off the pot and let everything cool down. The remaining pumpkin can be used in our  vegan pumpkin cheesecake bars recipe.
